Fourth Annual Classic was another success!

The 2008 Action Sports Medicine Champions Classic got under way with a barn-burner in Abilene's Shotwell Stadium and ended with a coming-out party for a local team with new uniforms and a new attitude.

In four very entertaining games for fans, Odessa Permian outlasted a fourth-quarter surge by Duncanville to win, 28-22, Abilene High dominated Fort Worth Dunbar, 58-14, Abilene Cooper defeated Fort Worth Wyatt, 33-0, and Merkel came back to beat Jim Ned, 28-7.

The Action Sports Medicine Champions Classic, in its fourth year, was created and is maintained by the Sports Alliance Committee of the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau, which is an affiliate of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce.

The primary purpose of the annual event is to raise scholarship money to be awarded each year to graduating seniors from each of the local high schools.  To date, the Classic has awarded almost $20,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors from Abilene High, Cooper High, Wylie High and Abilene Christian High schools.
